BBC Tea Factory
The Tea Factory transforms the century-old, long-derelict Typhoo Tea Building in Digbeth into a state-of-the-art broadcasting hub for the BBC, bringing a landmark piece of Birmingham's industrial heritage back into use.
The challenge
The redevelopment of the old warehouse, occupying a full city block, will house 700 TV and radio staff when it opens in 2027. Robell's scope covered the heating and ventilation controls on the base build before continuing across the ground, first and second floors, each split into quadrants with independent zones of VRF, chilled beams and VAVs.

The Trend Building Management System integrates multiple communication protocols across a range of devices, coordinating heating, ventilation and energy monitoring throughout the redevelopment.
The outcome
The Trend BMS system integrates multiple communication protocols across a range of devices, supported by energy monitoring throughout the site to drive efficiency and comfort performance, helping bring this once neglected building back to life as a dynamic modern broadcasting facility.
